This love theme had lyrics put to it by Paul Francis Webster. We need a remastered version of the Varese Airport CD, at the very least, if we can't get the original film tracks. To tell the truth, the Main Title theme is so powerful and made such an impression on me - it's one of my absolute favorites of all time - that I always seem to forget that this score has other themes too!. Alfred Newman cloaked this film with a luxurious Sable-coat, as it were. I've got this strange love of films like 'Airport' and, 'The Hight and the Mighty', in that they depict a method of travel and a style, that once was commonplace, but is now ancient history. I love the love theme of the film, and the background music used for The Diner, which is a sort of 'soft-rock', unusual for Newman I thought. The reason why they haven't and probably won't, remains a mystery to us all. I'm careful with it because I honestly do not believe Varese will re-issue it or any expanded version, in my lifetime anyway. It was eventually replaced by the Varese CD which I play with great care these days. I also had the Decca (?) original vinyl album, way back in the day. Living Strings' take on the Newman's Airport Love Theme: The did a bunch of cover versions in their days. You and Montana Dave are two of my favorites. I just want to add that's it is wonderful to see you posting again Ron. At 2:48 there's a short clarinet solo that I love. I love how the tempo picks up around 1:46, which to me, gives it a sense of urgency and bittersweetness. And the love theme is probably among the top 10 cues I've listened to in all my years of collecting. I still have the original LP from the time the movie was released, in not very good shape, as I played it constantly as a 10 year old. "Airport" is the first soundtrack I ever bought.
